Truck Accidents

Truck drivers in the state of Texas are subject to state and federal safety regulations. These regulations are designed to keep trucks, their drivers, and other vehicles and drivers safe. Our attorneys take pride in holding trucking companies responsible for reckless and negligent conduct that causes accidents. By working together, we can help you get the money you need to move on with your life and care for your family after a truck accident.

Why are truck accidents so common?

Commercial 18-wheelers are large vehicles and depending on their specific cargo, can weigh up to 80,000 pounds. These massive trucks stretch between 70 and 80 feet in length. Think about that compared to the size of your average family vehicle, which weighs only about 4000-5,000 pounds.

For large vehicles like 18-wheelers, it takes approximately 40% longer to stop. That means it could take up to two football fields for a truck that size to come to rest.

Why are truck accidents so dangerous?

Over 60% of the fatalities in truck accidents occur passenger vehicle occupants and most of these accidents happen during the day between noon and 3PM.

Injuries in truck accidents are often very severe due the weight of the truck and the physics involved in crashes at higher speeds. Injuries can include neck and spinal injuries, back injuries, broken bones, whiplash, head trauma, severe contusions, internal bleeding, and often have lasting effects.

Why are truck accidents so expensive?

Many victims incur high hospital costs in the immediate aftermath of such an accident, but still more will also require costly surgeries, treatments, or interventions in the future.

At Hilley & Solis Law we work hard to make sure our clients get access to the specific specialists they need to give them the best chance of returning to a healthy lifestyle after a severe accident. Many firms allow clients to settle with doctors who are simply “approved” by large insurance companies, rather than putting their client’s health first and finding them the leading specialists they deserve.

What should I do if I’m involved in a truck accident?

First, exit your car and move to a safe space, if possible, and call emergency services and/or the police.

Tip: Here’s a simple hack for calling 911 on an iPhone quickly! On iPhone models 8+ you can press and hold the side button and one of the volume buttons until an emergency slider appears. If you drag the emergency slider across, your phone will immediately call the appropriate emergency services number for the area! If you’re unable to drag the slider because of an injury or positioning, you can continue to hold the side button and volume button and a countdown and alert sound will begin. Once the countdown and sound ends, your phone will call emergency services. *This information is for the USA.

Second, if possible, retrieve your registration and insurance information from your vehicle.

Did you know most insurance companies now have applications you can download that will store your insurance information in your phone?

If you are unable to retrieve this information, that’s ok! Your safety is the most important thing at this time.
